Biographical / Historical
Edwin R. Williams received Wesleyan's first PhD in physics. He was a grad student at Wesleyan from 1966-1970, although his degree was conferred in 1971. After Wesleyan, he spent from August 1970-August 1971 at Williams College doing a post doc in the physics department there. In August 1971 we moved to Gaithersburg, MD, where Ed began his career with the National Institute of Standards and Technology (then the National Bureau of Standards). He remained at NIST until his retirement in 2008.
